Beautiful homewares and gifts with a story to tell

Born from a love of travel and a passion for interior design, Lychee brings beautiful, handcrafted homewares and gifts to New Zealand.

Our collection is inspired by the places we travel, the people we meet and the incredible craftsmanship we discover along the way. From natural textures and coastal-inspired décor to unique homewares and thoughtful gifts, every piece is personally selected because we genuinely love it — and hope you will too.

Our journey began in Bali, where a love of traditional craftsmanship, natural materials and relaxed island style sparked an idea: to bring those beautiful, considered pieces home to New Zealand.

The story behind Lychee

I'm Louise, the founder and the 'we' behind Lychee.

My love of interiors started long before Lychee. After having my first child in 2017, I completed a Diploma in Interior Design while being a stay-at-home mum. I fell in love with the way a space can be transformed through colour, texture, materials and carefully chosen pieces — creating not just a beautiful room, but a feeling, mood or story.

In 2023, I took my Mum to Bali and Singapore to celebrate her 70th birthday. While exploring Bali, surrounded by beautiful handmade products and talented artisans, an idea began to take shape.

 

What if I could combine my love of interior design, travel and beautiful things and share them with others?

After my first sourcing trip in 2024, Lychee was officially born in January 2025.

And what started as an idea has grown into a little business that allows me to travel, discover and bring unique homewares and gifts back to New Zealand.

Sourced with intention

For me, beautiful products are about more than how they look.

I want to know who made them, where they were made and what they were made from.

Whenever possible, I work with artisans and suppliers who value traditional craftsmanship, fair pay and comfortable working conditions. I'm also passionate about choosing natural and sustainable materials wherever I can.  

        

Many of the pieces in our collection are handcrafted rather than mass produced, meaning each one has its own character and subtle variations. These little imperfections are part of what makes handmade pieces so special.

Discovering the artisans behind the products

Each sourcing trip is an adventure.

I make a point of visiting different areas of Bali, exploring independent stores and workshops, wandering down backstreets and discovering villages known for their own unique crafts and specialities.

I love talking to local people and learning about the traditions, techniques and stories behind the products.  I'm constantly amazed by the patience that goes into creating something by hand.

From woven fibres and natural materials to beautifully crafted home décor, there is always something new to discover.

And that's one of my favourite things about what I do — I never quite know what I'll find.
