Meet the Makers - Balizen
At Lychee, we’ve always believed that the things we bring into our homes should be more than just beautiful. We love pieces with a story — products made with care, by talented people, using traditional skills and materials that connect us to somewhere a little further afield.
That’s one of the reasons we’re so proud to work with Balizen.
Established in Bali in 1992, Balizen is a family-owned, fair trade and eco-conscious business with a deep commitment to people, craftsmanship and the environment. Their collections are inspired by nature and the Balinese traditions of simplicity, harmony and thoughtful craftsmanship.

More than beautiful things
What really resonates with us at Lychee is that Balizen looks beyond the finished product.
Their pieces are handmade by village artisans and in their own Fair Trade workshop in Bali, working alongside artisan partners — many of whom they have collaborated with for more than 30 years. By supporting these makers, Balizen helps preserve traditional Indonesian handicrafts and the skills that have been passed down through generations.
Fair Trade is also at the heart of what they do. Balizen is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation and is committed to fair wages, good working conditions and building long-term relationships with the people and communities behind their products.

A genuine commitment to sustainability
Sustainability isn’t simply a trend for Balizen — it has been part of their philosophy since the beginning.
They favour natural and sustainable materials, reuse production offcuts where possible, and work with artisans and suppliers to improve sustainable practices. Their work also extends beyond their products, with involvement in environmental education, organic farming, reforestation and community empowerment projects.
We love that their approach is about making thoughtful choices, reducing waste and continually looking for ways to do better.

Why Balizen feels right for Lychee
When I started Lychee, one of the things I wanted to create was a place where you could discover beautiful pieces from around the world — but also understand a little about where they came from and the people behind them.
My love of Bali has been a huge part of that journey. I’m drawn to its creativity, colour, craftsmanship and incredible artisan culture, and I love bringing a little of that spirit home through Lychee.
Working with Balizen feels like a natural fit. Their beautiful, handcrafted pieces capture so much of what we love — relaxed, natural, globally inspired design — while their values align closely with our own belief in choosing thoughtfully made products and supporting the people who make them.
For us, it’s not just about what a piece looks like on a shelf or in your home. It’s about the hands that made it, the skills behind it and the story it carries.
And that’s exactly the kind of story we want Lychee to share.
Beautiful things. Thoughtfully made. With a story worth bringing home.
